PhD scholarship committee
The Committee consists of three internationally renowned, leading academics within monetary policy and financial stability research who, while being members of the Committee, are independent from Norges Bank. They will support Norges Bank by providing credible and impartial evaluations of candidates to the Norges Bank PhD Scholarship Program and award the scholarships.
The following academics have been appointed to serve as members of the Committee:
- Douglas Gale, Professor, Department of Economics, New York University
- Ricardo Reis, Professor of economics, London School of Economics
- Morten O. Ravn, Professor of Economics, University College London
Mandate of the Committee on Norges Bank's PhD Scholarship Program
The Committee (NBSC) will support Norges Bank by providing credible and impartial evaluations of candidates to the Norges Bank PhD Scholarship Program.
2. Members and Appointment
The Committee consists of three internationally renowned, leading academics within monetary policy and financial stability research who, while being members of the Committee, are independent from Norges Bank. The majority of the committee, including the Chairperson is independent from any Norwegian Educational Institution.
The members of the Committee, including the Chairperson are appointed by invitation from The Research Director of Norges Bank for a period of three years limited to two consecutive periods.
The Research Director of Norges Bank supported by Norges Bank HR will provide secretarial services to the Committee.
3. Terms of Reference
The committee will annually evaluate new applications, renewal requests and status reports in line with the Scholarship program as published on the Norges Bank web site and the terms and conditions set forth in the agreement between Norges Bank and the Recipient of the Scholarship.
Based on its evaluation the committee will grant a Scholarship to students limited to three new applicants per year and continuation scholarships to existing students.
The Chairperson shall chair the committee meetings and see to that the committee assesses the applications, renewal requests and change requests. The committee's discretional decision is to be submitted in writing to Norges Bank no later than 1 June for new applications and 1 October for renewal applications.
The committee will provide advice to Norges Bank on the set up of the program, the educational institutions and any other advice that the committee considers to be valuable for the purpose of the program. Norges Bank will at its best endeavor arrange a joint annual meeting with the committee.
